“After 3 years of chronic elbow pain from repetitive stress as a hairstylist, I had tried anything to help. Acupuncture, multiple physical therapists, multiple trainers, massage therapists, chiropractors, healers…I was desperate and becoming hopeless. I had doctors tell me I should rethink my career and do something different where I didn’t have to use my arms so much. What I really wanted was to feel like I could be active and stay healthy. I found that almost anything I tried only made my elbows worse, no matter how gentle (yoga, dancing, bar method, light weights, swimming.) A friend referred me to Eric, and although I was skeptical that anything would help, I was desperate for some relief! I had been injured by trainers in the past and was quite timid to even try, and voiced my concerns before we began. Eric assured me he felt like HML would help me, and was eager to start. We began by doing gentle exercises and he gave me an at home routine. The logic and science behind his approach was different than anything anyone had tried. Instead of trying to temporarily fix the problem with a cortisone shot, icing, etc. Eric wanted to strengthen and correct my body so that it would be a permanent fix. Within 2 weeks I noticed a huge difference! I was able to work 9 hour days pain free, things like closing a heavy car door didn’t hurt, carrying groceries and lifting heavy things were easy for me. I was doing exercises with him I NEVER thought I would be able to do again because my elbow pain had made me feel weak and afraid of making it worse. Now, a couple of months in, I am blown away that I am pain free. I get excited to do the exercises I have learned, I feel strong and healthy and love my job again! Living with chronic pain was debilitating and depressing and finding someone that I trusted and that could help me took over 3 years. I am so grateful I tried HML and met Eric, he has helped me become strong and feel healthy again, when I had genuinely lost hope of feeling those things again.”

“I had a strength imbalance in my hips. My right hip and glute was burning out very quickly and was very weak in comparison to my left. I could feel the difference and it was putting my knee at risk for injury. I did not previously seek any professional help to fix my issues. I did some research online and learned what I could. I was not having any success on my own, so I sought out HML. HML helped my imbalance very quickly. I was surprised at the results I was feeling and seeing just 3 weeks after coming in for the first time. It was a crazy feeling to notice a difference in the way I was walking just a few weeks into training there. I think it’s really important for people to know how well Eric explains the form and mechanics of all exercises. I know how important it is to maintain proper form, so it was great for me to receive a very in depth explanation and example. Those who have little understanding of how the body moves will be able to get the big picture after Eric explains everything. The most helpful things I learned at Human Movement Lab are the simple exercises that can be done at home daily – it’s not about the quantity of exercises but the focus on key movements that work the entire body.”

“I started with Human Movement Lab because I wanted to jump higher, had a SLAP tear and bicep tendon anchor tear in left shoulder from a ski fall, and had serious swayback. I have always lifted weights and done plyometrics to jump higher but realized at HML that I didn’t have the foundation of stability needed for these plyometrics to give me what they were supposed to. My vertical has increased a few inches over the years. I was doing band therapy for my shoulder and it was getting better. Never addressed my sway back or trunk stability. HML did improve my vertical in a matter of months, not by making me ‘stronger’ but by helping my body use 100% of the strength I already had with 100% efficiency. I also went from not being able to do one push-up because of shoulder pain, to doing push-ups pain free in two months! I also gained 1 and 1/4 inch in height, going from 5′ 10″ to 5′ 11 1/4″ as we were able to correct my sway back in a matter of weeks! What I learned that was most helpful at HML is that most of us do not move efficiently because of old injuries and pain. So we don’t move as well or jump as high as our muscles could allow us when our brain is shunting movement to ‘protect’ the body. We don’t need to get a lot stronger, faster, or more athletic…we need to use 100% of what we already have! The most helpful things I learned at Human Movement Lab are the simple exercises that can be done at home daily – it’s not about the quantity of exercises but the focus on key movements that work the entire body.”

“I had a dull ache (sciatica?) that went from my left hip to my left knee to my ankle. I tried to stretch it out for a month, but the ache never went away. My right shoulder was also in pain from playing beach volleyball. Stretching my shoulder out did not help either.

HML did resolve my issues! After training there for a month, the dull ache on the left side of my body went away. I strengthened my core/abs, hips, and glutes and they became more symmetrical. Symmetry in my trunk area definitely released the ache without the need to focus on a specific area. While doing exercises with kettlebell weights to strengthen my trunk area, my arms became stronger. Naturally, the pain in my right shoulder went away as well.

What I learned at HML: The source of any pain stems from your trunk area (your abs, hip flexors, and glute muscles). If your trunk is not strong or symmetrical, then you are more prone to injuries and pain when playing sports or other physical activities. The exercises that I learned at HML are simple, but absolutely amazing! They are highly effective and require very little time. I can do the same exercises for the rest of my life and my trunk area will always be strong. Learning the exercises from HML was the best investment of my time!”

“Mostly I was concerned with how stiff I was. Not agile. Unable to bend over and tie my shoes or pick up the newspaper from the driveway. I had both hips replaced 15 years ago. I was stiff while walking and didn’t have good posture. I also wanted to get exercise and on my own I don’t force myself to do it. Just wanted to get more agile and be able to bend and twist better. Here is what I think. I was really stiff at the beginning and could hardly do anything. Mobility increased quite a bit, posture improved a lot. Even 40 years ago when my son was 30-40 pounds, the day after I would carry him around on my shoulders at the zoo I could hardly move because of back pain – which is why I was surprised that I am now able to lift considerable weight in the safe position of a hip hinge and I feel totally fine and much lighter walking around all the time during and the all days following. At Human Movement Lab I hear more about breathing than I’ve ever heard. I learned that I don’t know how to breathe properly or at least I haven’t been for a long time and breathing has a lot to do with mobility. To me, in my mind, i wish I had started this when i was 50. As time goes by we build a lot of bad habits that are hard to get out of. I would highly reccomend Human Movement Lab to anyone else with stiffness, mobility issues and similar problems.”

“I grew up in an athletic household and was taught the old way of strength building, which definitely has some great parts. Even though I consider myself functional as an athlete, I was missing the fundamentals of gaining a symmetrical frame. Human Movement Lab helped me build an understanding of what it truly means to be a functional athlete. I learned fundamentals that I never knew or thought of as fundamentals. At Human Movement Lab, Eric walked me through exercises such as turkish getups, kettlebell swings, single leg deadlifts, etc., all of which I had never done and they helped me build a foundation that I never had before. HML will not only give your body the breath of fresh air that it needs but you will take away a wealth of knowledge about fundamentals, the human body, and asymmetries that stifle a person’s mobility.

I personally would like to say thank you to Eric for getting my mind and body back to the place it needs to be for my everyday living.”

“When I started with HML, I had knee and back pain and wanted to be able to play volleyball without the pain. I tried resting when it got bad but that didn’t work once I started playing again. After doing the programming at HML in sessions and at home, I was able to play volleyball without any back or knee pain. Learning how to properly load my hips with a hip hinge took the stress off my knees and lower back every time I jumped so it made it easier to play my sport. HML helped me understand that a simple daily routine can easily benefit both pain and performance levels.”

“I came to Human Movement Lab looking for athletic performance enhancement as well as relief to some low back pain after a disc herniation to L4-L5. Previously I had some relief through yoga, chiropractic care, dry needling, icing and massage and although those are all a part of a successful outcome, they didn’t fully address the cause or input that led to the repetitive injury. Working with Human Movement Lab allowed me to become stronger and faster without surgery and I learned how important it is to identify and treat the root cause of injury first. Treating symptoms is then moot – period, end of sentence.”

“I came to Human Movement Lab because I wanted to improve core strength and stability, and minimize injuries from my other sports. The physical therapy I did previously only addressed the specific symptom, not the problem. I also sustained a hamstring/glute injury from kickboxing which HML has helped to improve movement to allow me to get back to my sport faster. Addressing overall movement helped. I have improved my core strength and overall movement functionally.

The most helpful things I learned at Human Movement Lab are the simple exercises that can be done at home daily – it’s not about the quantity of exercises but the focus on key movements that work the entire body.”
